Journey of NR Studios
Started by Ben Lakin and his wife, Annie, NR Studios was formally known as No Regrets. It opened its first studio on Cheltenham high street nine years ago and has gone from strength to strength since. It’s now one of the biggest UK studios, home to 13 resident artists in total. Over the years, we built up a great reputation and client satisfaction levels due to our artist’s high standards and skilled artistry. This enabled us to move onto our second location in Exeter. Our third studio is hoping to follow in their footsteps and become the best tattoo artist London services available.
Our ‘timeless and effortless’ setting is spacious and light, with our décor featuring copper plated tables, bare filament bulbs and steel cupboards. You’ll feel completely at ease in our comfortable chairs, whether in the waiting area or during a session. Tea and coffee are available for your refreshment, and you’ll feel relaxed in our stylish artistry zones. Artists have best-on-the-market chairs by Tatt Soul and use the highest quality of materials. Our high standard work comes from support from World Famous Ink, Sorry Mom and Hustle Better Deluxe. Both artist and client can relax while in the best setting for creating a unique masterpiece.
Our front of house team will be on hand to greet you when you first arrive and are knowledgeable about our practices. They can guide you through your options including showing you the styles available in our artist gallery and answering your initial questions. If you want to take the finance option for payment of our services, they will take you through the application process, ensuring it’s as hassle-free as possible for you.
Our talented tattoo artists have a wide range of styles they cover including geometric, blackwork, traditional, neotraditional, trash polka and colour realism. One of the most popular sensations in the tattooing industry is ‘black and grey realism’, and our Cheltenham studio is home to three artists specialising in this area, Danny Romano, Georgi Kodzhabashev, and Bacanu Bogdan.
We never shy away from inviting guest artists to the studio, bringing their unique skill sets from around around the world. We’ve had the likes of Alex Petcu, Michael Tauget and Mike Boyd in our studios and they’ve been a hit with both old and new customers. Both our resident artists and clients benefit from the fresh concepts they bring to the table. If you want to know who’ll be joining us next, including those visiting our tatoo artist London studio, take a look on our website and social media feeds.
NR’s Best Tattoo Artist London Studios
Over the last decade, the tattoo industry has experienced a shift in focus to the endless possibilities which can be achieved when translating artwork onto skin. Artists must try to close the gap between themselves and their clients so that ideas and concepts will blend, creating completely unique designs. All of our tattoos are bespoke at NR Studios. Although we don’t copy ideas directly, we create a unique design just for you, using the concepts you like. This means your tattoo is more personal and special. We always encourage our artists to pursue the tattooing areas they’re passionate in, allowing them to completely immerse themselves in a particular niche. We believe this develops their artistry and skills so that they can raise the bar on quality and creativity. We have artists who work in a range of niche styles, meaning you can choose them for your design if you want your piece to be as high quality as possible.
Two of our best tattoo artist London team are Razvan Rosca and Ryan Smith.
Razvan Rosca: Razvan is one of our most sought after black and grey tattoo artists, adding a dark twist to his pieces by taking concepts from nature and the human mind. He’s forged a path with his A-void project, taking large-scale pieces and giving them a distinct charcoal or pencil work appearance.
Ryan Smith: Ryan is often called ‘The Scientist’ for his conceptual scientist genre. Creating a specialist niche, he combines hennism/mandala with colour realism, to create pieces with intricate linework and clean, bold colours. By experimenting with various styles and colours, Ryan stands out from the crowd and has won awards for his work.
These are just two of our tattoo London team, but we’re the home of many talented artists specialising in areas such as blackwork, realism and black and grey. We also have specialist styles available such as illustrative freehand, personal artwork, large-scale characters and watercolour freehand.
Understanding Our Processes
Ben and Annie have ensured NR has a sound enquiry process so that customers can easily understand what is happening at each step. If you take a look at our website, you’ll find it’s easy to navigate, and there are plenty of artist portfolios for you to browse through to give you more insight. We also have an enquiry form in which you can state your preferred artist, share an idea or ask a question. If you’re unsure which artist is the right one for you, share your idea with us, and we can guide you. Although each artist can work with a variety of styles, if your concept fits into a particular niche, we may have an artist specialising in this area. Once you’ve chosen your artist, we’ll book your consultation with them. This involves a short face to face discussion in which you can tell them your idea in a relaxed setting. They’ll then be able to come up with a bespoke design around your idea. They should also be able to give you a better idea of cost and timings.
Getting a tattoo shouldn’t be taken lightly, so we always give our clients as much information as we can. If you still feel uncertain, go away and think about what you’d like to do. You can also book your first session once you’ve had your consultation. We’ll be able to tell you all available dates and take a deposit. Having a modern diary application, if you have further questions or concerns, we can easily manage your query. You can also choose our finance option if you want to spread out the cost.
We love our job and feel privileged to meet clients from so many walks of life. We believe in making high quality tattoos more accessible and are proud to offer finance on our services, being the only UK studio currently providing this. If this is an option you’d like to take us up on, speak to our front of house team. They can guide you through each step of the application process and will know within minutes if you’re eligible, making it an uncomplicated process for you. We use Omni Capital, and payments can be made over 6, 12 or 24 months. If you would like to work out the best option for you, our website has a specialist ‘Finance’ section, and we even provide a handy calculator to compare choices. We also provide you with all the facts in a clear and concise way.
As the digital world has evolved, every industry has been changed by the possibilities of social media. It’s given consumers more information than ever and opened the doors to connecting with businesses more easily than ever. NR Studio’s artists have a combined Instagram following of 150,000 fans, proving just how influential the online world can be. Social media platforms are great for clients who can use sites like Pinterest and Instagram to easily see thousands of images of tattoos from some of the best artists in the industry. The high quality work speaks for itself, often with just a short caption underneath each image. Having such a great resource at their fingertips allows tattoo-lovers to find more inspiration for their design concepts. Social media has also opened the doors for a whole new audience to fall in love with tattooing, giving an insight into our world and the possibilities when transferring artwork onto skin. You’ll find plenty of ideas on NR Studio’s social media feeds. We also post information about upcoming conventions and events we’re attending, competitions, diary openings and our next guest artists. You can also see images of our artists’ latest designs.
Over the last decade, conventions have become more popular than ever in the tattooing industry. Tens of thousands of people descend on some of largest events in which they can see world-renowned artists showcase some of their finest skills. From our London Studio, you can even visit nearby conventions such as the annual London Tattoo Convention. Taking place over several days, organisers put on an extravaganza of competitions, tattooing and live music. Competitions give artists the chance to showcase their work to a wider audience and win awards in categories such as ‘Best Black and Grey.’ NR’s artists have won awards spanning a whole variety of categories. Ryan Smith has previously won categories such as ‘Best of Day’ and ‘Best in Show’, recently collaborating with NR’s own Jay Freestyle at the Milano Tattoo Convention to win Best of Show. This was an outstanding achievement and shows that some of the best in the business recognise the talent we have here at NR Studios.
The evolution of the tattooing world has helped artists to shed the ‘dog eat dog’ stigma that’s often attached to this industry. Collaborations have become an integral part of artists pushing the boundaries of possibilities, giving them an insight into fresh concepts and ideas. This allows artists to actively advance their skills, creativity and the quality of their work. At NR, we love working with other artists, actively seeking out new collaborations whenever possible. This creates endless combinations of skills and raises the bar for high quality artistry.
Looking to the Future
The tattoo industry will continue to grow, which means the pool of studios and artists to choose from will also continue to increase. We set high standards at NR Studios, achieving high customer satisfaction levels and setting ourselves apart from other studios. We design our processes around meeting customer needs, creating a great experience every time. We’ve even installed flat screen TVs at each station so that you can use wireless earphones to listen to music or watch Netflix during your sessions.
Expansion has always been part of the plan for NR after achieving success at our first two studios in Cheltenham and Exeter. When Ben and Annie started to look at the next move, the Big Smoke came as a no-brainer. London is one of the most groundbreaking cities in the world when it comes to art, so it was the logical step to move here next and create some masterpieces. Our aim is to build on our previous successes and create one of the best tattoo artist London studios available. We’re proud of our location in the heart of Hackney on Minerva Street, putting us in a prime location to offer our London tattoo services. We continually aim to close the gap between traditional art forms such as sculpture and painting with the tattooing world. Pioneering the way, our London tattoo studio even has its own gallery curator and onsite photographer.
